Dr. George Gilchrist,
Interim Pastor/Transitional Pastor

George was born "at an early age" on a wheat ranch in the Palouse Country of Eastern Washington State. During his senior year of high school, he came to faith in Christ as our means of forgiveness and access to God.

Subsequently, he enrolled in Whitworth College and discovered the Presbyterian denomination. He was baptized as a college junior and joined Whitworth Community Presbyterian. Upon graduation, he enrolled at San Francisco Theological Seminary. Later, he received both a Masters of Divinity in 1971 as well as a Doctor of Ministry in 1991 from Fuller Seminary.

He has served Christ in the following churches…

  • '71-'74; Associate Pastor for Youth and Family, Wicomico Pres., Salisbury, Maryland
  • '75-'83; Associate Pastor for Youth and Family, 1st Pres., Fresno, Calif.
  • '83-2002; Senior Pastor, Trinity Presbyterian, a New Church Development (NCD) in the suburbs of Anchorage, Alaska
  • Fall 2002; Completed classes with Interim Ministry Network to be certified as an Interim/Transitional Pastor
  • Jan. 2003-May 2005; Interim/Transitional Pastor, PBPC, Oakland
  • June 2005- March 2008; Interim/Transitional Pastor, 1st Pres., San Mateo
  • May 2008-Nov. 2009; Interim/Transitional Pastor, Union Pres., Los Altos
  • Jan. 2010-present; Church Liaison, Alongside Ministries International (www.alongside.org)

George is married to Margie. Their three children and their spouses – Greg & Lynn; Cameron & Marlys; Lisa & Tyson – living in Danville, Anchorage and Seattle - are the parents of the Gilchrist's five grandchildren, ages four to 21 months.
